A moment with Emma Knowles

It was such a joy for me to chat to Emma recently, Emma is an intuitive spiritual and energy healer, crystal reader, meditation teacher, clairvoyant and author and someone I have admired for so long. I take both huge comfort and inspiration from the wisdom she shares through her social media, her in-person events, her products and have read all of her books multiple times.

I loved learning more about the fascinating inspiration behind Emma's company, her vision for the future, the things that make her smile and her greatest personal achievement. I hope you love reading Emma's story as much as I did.

Tell us your story and what inspired you to set up your company?

My inspiration comes from life and really beautiful push!

It’s a long story, so I will keep it short for you! I have always been ’sensitive’ - can see, feel, know ’things’ without knowing why - at that age and at that time, we would be labelling these touches I had as psychic, or healing or clairvoyant or whatever name you so choose for them. At 11 years old, all these gifts showed up in one big blast in quite a spectacular way - that’s a story for another time, but the outcome is that I had a huge connection with spirit and when I approached my family with it - they shut me down, told me I was ‘wrong’ not because they are cruel but in protection. As an adult I can completely understand why - however at that time it felt like such a blow, I thought I was mad more than anything or at risk of being that - I definitely did not want to be different so I went completely the other way - tried to become like my sister, ate a lot, ingested A LOT of sugar - hiding away my light really and lowering the vibe. The truth is you cannot switch these things off, the more you ignore them the louder it gets… some 3 years later, what I had ‘known’, I was then told to be true - but by then I had already become super sceptical of myself - which in the long term in my career has been one of my greatest blessings, question everything, ask of spirit and be sure to trust the feeling when you feel it.

I fell into energy healing at 20, or rather it found and pushed me, and it changed everything - creating a space where I could be more in control or feel safer in all I was feeling and then being able to translate it energetically to and for others.

I have had a very full 39 years of learning personally and professionally, what I experienced I am blessed to take to my clients, the 'how’s' I have self-learnt I can now use to heal others, the pain transmuted into something so useful. For the past 20 years (and then some I think!) I have been working with energy healing and readings, doing it alongside some major jobs, working evenings and weekends in my side hustle - until one fine day my publisher approached me and asked me to write my first book! Cut to 6 years later, 5 books later - published in 10+ languages and I am now running a successful healing, coaching, teaching enterprise, alongside an online store born from my love and passion for crystals and all things vibing to feel good!

Looking back what were the most important things you wish someone had told you before starting your business?

Don’t be afraid to get it wrong, perfect is not real. Stay in your own lane and keep your eyes and heart set on what you and you alone are doing.

What is your vision for the future of your company?

I am currently working on creating a platform that makes working with spirit more accessible, less woo woo and connecting with yourself more enjoyable, rewarding, and meaningful. Which it should be, it is for everyone, regardless of how you guise it, however that is for you.

What are the most rewarding aspects of what you do?

Seeing people work through what’s drawing them, fighting to swim on occasions and then in others just letting themselves shine - trusting in themselves and in spirt, in life and choosing to honour that they deserve more….

What is the best piece of career advice you have been given?

You’re not here to win a popularity contest! Game changer :)

What book should we all read?

'The game of life and how to play it' by Florence Scovel Shinn.

Such a brilliant and straight forward book on manifesting and taking control of the vision of life. It was written in the 1920’s and if you read it with a mindset of that she’s talking about, the higher power as an energy, a source, rather than a religious practice - its ace.

What is your greatest personal achievement?

Last year I decided to learn to swim properly, after an injury and having always been self-taught - I got my 1,000 meter badge in front crawl in under 40 mins - I have my badge on my office wall :)

What is the first thing you do when you get up in the morning?

Choose my thought, check in with where I am at, is my mind setting on a spiral of joy or gloom? I’ll then meditate and then move in to my qi gong practice or hit the gym and then walk Dolly the dog. Mornings are like sacred times for me - I fill them but with all the good stuff for me.

What makes you smile?

Other people smiling and enjoying the day for totally no reason.

Where do you find inspiration?

Out walking and watching life or mediating and listening in and up.

Do you collect anything?

A bazillion crystals :)
